Directory

Concept

Directory.

Everybody in this hobby knows a shop, and nobody can prove one is good. A directory would be the easy part; standing behind it is the hard part, and we are not going to pretend we can. One shop is here because it is doing documented work on a truck we write about. The rest is a shape, with an invented shop standing in it.

What is a concept

  • One shop is listed, because it is doing documented work on a truck we write about. Nobody else is.
  • No search, filter, listing submission or business review exists, and VWX vets nobody.
  • The shop below was invented for this page. It has no address, no telephone and no door.

One shop, and the reason it is here.

BusWerks

The shop named in the 1959 Single Cab build record. It is here because of the truck, not because we checked it out.

Three kinds of entry.

A directory has to sort itself before it is any use. These are the three sorts.

Restorers

Metalwork, paint, & assembly.

Vendors

NOS parts & aftermarket.

Marketplace

Cars for sale, listed by whoever owns them.

Seven regions and seven specialities, and one shop between them. The lists are the easy half.

Search, described.

You would type a town and get the shops near it, or a job and get the people who do it. There is nothing to search: one entry is documented and one is invented, and both are on this page already.

The invented shop

Everything below is an illustration.

Know a great shop?

There is nowhere to submit one, and no review process behind it if there were. If you want a directory at all, the feedback box below is the honest version of this form.

Envisioned

  • A listing written by the shop, published only with the shop's consent.
  • Work anyone can look at, rather than a badge we made up.
  • Contact details that belong to the shop, given by the shop.
  • A region browser that admits where it is empty.
  • VWX will not authenticate a vehicle, and will not share anyone's contact details without their consent.

Tell us what you think

  • What would make a shop listing worth reading?
  • Would you trust a directory that vets nobody, if it said so?
