Digital Garage

Concept

A Garage That Remembers.

Every car leaves a trail: receipts, photographs, a list of jobs nobody finished. Most of it lives in a shoebox. The garage is our idea for keeping it in one place — one page per car, the work in the order it happened, and the whole thing handed on with the keys.

What is a concept

  • No accounts, vehicle records or photo uploads exist.
  • The two cars below were invented for this page. Nobody owns them.
  • Nothing on this page is saved anywhere. The only thing you can send us is feedback.

Everything below is an illustration.

Illustrative example — not a real record

A 1967 Beetle, shown as a representative image. It is not the invented car on this record.

Journal

Three entries, invented. No dates, because none of this happened.

  1. First entry

    Engine out.

It came out easier than it went in. The tin underneath was worse than the photographs suggested.

  2. Second entry

    Rebuild kit ordered.

Pistons and cylinders. The paperwork went in the folder, which is the entire point of the folder.

  3. Third entry

    Pans assessed.

Better than feared. Heater channels, and nothing else.

Tasks

Three things left to do, invented. Nothing to tick.

  • Get the heater channels in.
  • Find a pair of tail light lenses.
  • Decide about the paint.

Is a record like this worth keeping?

Envisioned

  • One page per car, with the work in the order it happened.
  • Photographs kept beside the job they belong to.
  • Parts and paint linked to the reference pages, not retyped by hand.
  • A record that survives the sale, if the seller wants it to.
  • VWX will not authenticate a vehicle, and will not share anyone's contact details without their consent.

Tell us what you think

  • Would you keep the record of your car here?
  • What would you want to hand to the next owner?
  • What would make you close the tab?
